Zeroscaping: The Road Ahead

If it’s not already clear, Zeroscaping began as a way to reduce friction in my life—mainly in four areas I’ve written about. Over time, it evolved into something more: a way to move toward flow.

This feels like a good point to zoom out and show you where it eventually landed.

The starting point was Financial Independence. That’s where I first began reclaiming time—reducing my reliance on a paycheck and creating more freedom.

From there, I shifted focus to two other areas:

Health and fitness, and stuff.

Relationships matter, too, of course. But I found they didn’t fit well into a “game.” They require a different kind of attention. So, while they’re central to life, I mostly worked on them outside the Zeroscaping framework.

Somewhere along the way, this turned into a game.

For whatever reason, I chose bowling.

A perfect bowling game is 300 - 12 strikes across ten frames. That idea stuck with me because it was clean, simple, and measurable.

So, I built my own version.

Three Core Areas:

Finances, Fitness, and Stuff

Within each I created three “process goals” plus one overarching metric.

That gave me twelve total targets. twelve “shots” at a “strike.” Hit them all, and you’ve got a 300 game.

For finances, my focus became:

daily tracking of spending and income

Eliminating debt

 Increasing savings rate

Metric: Net Worth

For fitness It was:

 Aerobic exercise

   Strength training

     Diet (calories, mostly)

Metric: Body Weight

For Stuff I focused On:

      Ongoing decluttering

     Regular Inventory

     Limitiing Total Possessions

Metric: Loving Most of What I Own

Each of these 12 gets a simple score of 1 to 10. Overtime, I moved from monthly tracking… to daily… then to a mix of both with a monthly reset.

The goal? A perfect 300.

I’ve almost never hit it

But That’s Not really the point

The system is imerfect. The targets change and life changes.

What matters is that it keeps me aware and it helps keep me engaged. It’s a kind of meditation—just structured.

And over time, it’s helped me reduce friction and move closer to the life I actually want to live.

If you were to build your Own version:

What are the 3 areas of your life that matter most right now?

And what would you track to know you are actually making progress?
