Pulling Over To A Rest Stop On A Highway To Yeah: An At-A-Glance Review Of The Roadmap
Wow. It’s hard to believe that this is the official six-month mark of daily postings.
I’m going to take a moment and just let that soak in as I write the article for today.
Okay, that’s done.
Now for something completely different, as Monty Python says.
Well, not really that different. I want to just do a quick recap of the last few days of articles, and then show where this is going from here.
The past few articles have been about preliminary steps to getting out on a Highway to Yeah.
They covered accounting for your lifetime earnings and peak experiences so far.
They covered how to budget and track your finances and time.
Budgeting is different post-FIRE.
but budgeting and tracking your time is way different in a post-FIRE lifestyle.
and I am still trying to figure this out for myself.
What has become clear to me is that getting out on a Highway to Yeah is not that much different than working to reach your crossover point and/or achieve FIRE.
The biggest difference is the emphasis on Yeah!
It is saying Yeah to:
Having more peak experiences
Living more in alignment with your core values
Designing a post-FIRE lifestyle that works for you
Otherwise, the steps to get to FIRE Are similar and have already been covered by a lot of people.
There are many guides out there you can follow.
Now, I have my own take on those, and I will provide a schematic I followed.
but covering Financials are not the Only or primary point of this blog.
That said, I do like the sequential step guides of Your Money or Your Life and Total Money Makeover.
Seriously, if you were to just take those two sources and make them work for yourself, you will get to FIRE sooner or later.
You just have to figure out how to follow the recommendations and steps in a way that works for you.
Getting out on a Highway to Yeah actually picks up there and continues the journey.
Put your plan into place for achieving FIRE
Zeroscape your life
Discover what “moves” you, and start figuring out how to bring it into your life
Build community
Let Go: take the leap, avoid “one more year” syndrome
Spend your post-FIRE time on what you love
Fulfill your unique quests
Repeat.
It’s not simply a linear journey. It is a cyclical process that expands outwards.
You move through the seven steps once.
Then you come back to the preliminary steps.
You re-ground your vision.
You assess how things are going.
You ensure you start anew with a beginner’s mindset.
You embark on the next leg of the journey out on to your Highway to Yeah.
Alright, that’s pretty much all I have to write about for today’s article.
What is capturing my attention right now is how I am budgeting my time.
This is a preliminary step, and I am repeating the steps.
I’ve achieved FIRE, and that is somewhat on autopilot now.
I absolutely pay attention to it, but it’s perhaps least of my concerns.
Spending more is a challenge. I don’t like putting my time freedom at risk.
And most financial planners would say I am doing fine in this regard, so even that is not too much of a concern.
Ah, Zeroscaping though ...
I thought I had done this really well.
And I did.
But it’s time to repeat.
I think it is the key to the next leg of my own journey.
Well, thanks for reading these articles.
I hope you are getting something out of them.
I will continue to do my best to keep them concise and relevant for people who want to build a life of their dreams.
Particularly one that no longer requires working for a paycheck.
